Tarleton State University and the greater Stephenville area continue to gain popularity and grow in rapid fashion as the school recently announced yet another record for enrollment.
According to a report from the Stephenville Empire Tribune, an official count on the 12th day that classes were in session found 10,940 students, making 2013 the second year in a row the school recorded an all-time high in enrollment. This year’s figure was 6.5 percent higher than last year’s count of 10,281.
“Clearly there is an increased interest in Tarleton that can be attributed to a number of factors,” Dr. David Weissenburger, associate vice president of enrollment management, told the news source. “Those include a relatively low cost to attend, a student-focused culture, excellent programs and accomplished faculty, strategic recruitment and enrollment management, successful sports teams, a beautiful main campus and a wide variety of student services.”
The main campus in Stephenville led the way with 8,145 students followed by the Fort Worth campus with 1,434 students, McLennan Community College in Waco with 962 students and Navarro College in Midlothian with 368 online students, the news source stated.
Other data points toward TSU gaining popularity among its students, as well, as Weissenburger added that the school saw a 7 percent increase in the number of students continuing their studies at the school. So more students are staying here once they arrive.
Freshmen are leading the way as the biggest incoming class in school history, signaling that the trajectory of the school, and the Stephenville community at large, is pointing up.
The news source stated that TSU had close to 10,000 applicants for the fall, which is a 9 percent increase from 2012 and a staggering 52 percent increase when compared to 2010.
