Tarleton track and field has gotten commitments from four high school track and field athletes to join the team and compete for Tarleton next season. Head coach Pat Ponder said, “We are very excited to add the student-athletes to the Tarleton track and field and cross country family. I think Coach (Justin) Hobbs did an outstanding job in addressing some of our needs and I look forward to seeing these student-athletes develop in the upcoming years.” Here’s a preview of the new members of the team.
Alex Abbott. Abbot is a sprinter from New Waverly Texas. Her strengths are the 200 and 400-meter races. She placed second during her junior year in her district in the 200-meter dash. She won her 400-meter dash and was named district champ. She’s a member of the track club Track Houston and was part of the 2011 USATF Southwest Region Junior Olympics. Her team placed 6th in the 4x400m relay, and third in the 4x400m relay. Abbot will participate in the 2012 Down Under Games this summer. They are held in Australia and she will represent the United States.
Joshua Pryor. Pryor is a sprinter from Dallas, and he is graduating from Southwest Christian College. While in high school, Joshua’s strength was in the 200m dash and 400m dash. He was also a member of their 4×400 relay team.
Conner Wikes. Wikes is a sprinter from Lubbock. His best races are the 100m, 200m and 400m dash. While in his junior year of high school he placed first in his district for the 200m dash and second in the 100m dash.
Mason Wrobel. Wrobel is a distance runner from Arlington and he will be graduating from Lamar High School. He is a very accomplished distance runner already. He’s a three-time district champion and also a regional qualifier. He took part in the 2009 Footlocker South cross-country meet, and the 2010 Nike South cross-country meet. He was a 2011 regional qualifier in track as well.
