The holiday season is a time to give thanks and enjoy togetherness, but what about those without family or friends in the area? A number of senior citizens in the Stephenville area are without close family and lack the means of travel to go see them, but don’t despair! A local group of do-gooders are teaming up to make sure they’re not forgotten this Christmas.
Meals on Wheels of Erath County — commonly referred to as MOWEC — and the Stephenville Senior Citizens center are hosting the annual Angel Tree, for meals on Wheels “Angels”. This fantastic initiative benefits the senior citizens in our community who aren’t fortunate enough to be around beloved family and friends during the holiday season, giving a sense of togetherness and holiday cheer to those who need it most.
The Angel Tree, located in the College Street center, will distribute angel tags on weekdays through December 13th, and gifts will be collected for distribution on December 14th. Each angel comes with a few “suggested gifts”, written on the back, written by the seniors themselves. Erath County residents can pick up an angel and are encouraged to purchase a gift from a local business, bringing joy to the valued members of our community as well as supporting local merchants.
The Meals on Wheels of Erath County’s Angel Tree is just one of the many great events that are taking place in Stephenville in the coming months. Keep the Stephenville community spirit alive by contributing what you can to this, or any other of the organized events in your area to make this holiday season great for your friends, family, and neighbors.
