Tarleton’s Recruits Bring New Talent to Erath County

Ronnie Hearne hasn’t been this excited about five high school athletes since signing the class that brought him this year’s Lone Star Conference regular season and postseason tournament championships.

That championship winning class included the two-time All-American and three-time Lone star Conference Academic Player of the Year Shelby Adamson, among other extremely talented and smart athletes. That class certainly set the bar high for future Tarleton players.

Coach Hearne has coached at Tarleton for nine seasons and has won more than 1,000 career games spanning the high school, junior college and Division II ranks. “Now it’s up to the girls returning and these new ones coming in to reach that bar and hopefully place it even higher.”

Morgan Ashmore is one of the new team members brought in early. She is a two-time Amarillo Globe News 2A/3A Player of the Year and two-time all-state honoree. Every school in the region was looking at Ashmore, so Tarleton is very grateful to have her.

Along with Ashmore, Meagan O’Dell of 2A Jim Ned, Erin Sims of 3A Lorena, Keyra Johnson of 5A Mansfield and, most recently, Raven McGrath of 2A Grandview will be joining the team.

Ashmore has been compared to former player Shelby Adamson. “I won’t ever say someone will be as good as Shelby, but that’s the type of player Morgan is,” Hearne said. “I knew about her and had heard about her tremendous fundamentals, then I finally saw her in a tournament in Coppell. She’s a coach’s daughter and it shows.”

Coach Hearne is very proud of all of the new team members headed for the TexAnns team. He’s also confident that they will all blend in with the returning team members very easily. “They’re good basketball players, good students and good young ladies. Now we just have to get them here and start building our team for another good year,” said Hearne.

“Jamie Stockstill held my hand through the entire process. Being a first time home buyer I had a million questions but she was always there, no matter what time of day, to answer my calls or texts. I always felt like she was working for my best interest. I will recommend her to anyone I come across looking to buy or sell.”
