The old adage “opposites attract” is true yet again! Texas-based Neiman Marcus and Target are teaming up to offer a limited holiday collection that includes everything from clothes to sporting goods.
Target has made a name for themselves of late, partnering with designers like Jason Wu and Missioni to create products that sell out in their stores and online in minutes. The holiday collaboration will feature over 50 products from 24 designers, including Oscar de la Renta, Diane von Furstenberg, and Derek Lam. Keeping in line with Target’s success, the products will be available at both stores and on their websites starting December 1 until they sell out. And interested shoppers can expect “until they sell out” to come relatively quickly if history is any indication. Target’s website crashed for a day last fall when the Missoni collection debuted. This time, shoppers will be limited to a certain number of items.
Items in the collection will cost from $7.99 to $499.99, but most will sell for less than $60. Kathee Tesija, Target’s executive vice president of merchandising, adds, “We definitely have our differences. They’re high-end, and we’re mass appeal. But we both love design.” Target and Neiman Marcus hope to resonate with a new segment of customers who are increasingly shopping around at both higher- and lower-price stores. For Target, the marriage will allow them to boost their fashion image, and for Neiman Marcus, they will be able to introduce themselves to people who never considered shopping at the notoriously expensive store.
Wanda Gierhart, senior vice president and chief marketing officer at The Neiman Marcus Group, said, “Customers love innovation, and they want a surprising shopping experience. We feel it’s such an incredible assortment that customers from both ends of the spectrum will want it.”
