Stevenville’s Tyler Jones has had a lot of eyes on him as of late. The young football talent has been recruited by TCU, Houston, SMU, Texas Tech, Louisiana Tech, and New Mexico, but verbally committed to Texas State recently, securing a spot on their roster of quarterbacks in the 2013 recruiting class. He is the first commitment in that class.
Texas State was actually the first school who was willing to invest in the Stephenville resident. The Bobcats first approached Jones back in May, but he took his time to review offers from the aforementioned schools. It became clear that Texas State would be the best fit, especially given that Texas State is hoping to stir things up in FBS football in the coming years. Jones said helping Texas State’s move from FCS to FBS play had some impact on his decision.
The 6-foot-2, 195-pound quarterback was recruited by defensive tackle coach, Reuben Vaughn. Jones also spoke highly about the coaching staff, indicating that also impacted his choice to attend Texas State.
