Stephenville Christian Reformed Church, in partnership with Youth Unlimited, recently hosted a one-week mission trip for high school students. During the trip, students from across the United States dedicated 832 hours of volunteer service in the community.
Their hard work included painting houses, cleaning up yards, helping at the Cross Timbers Pregnancy Care Center, and doing community car washes. A congregational celebration was held as a “thank you” for their dedication as well.
SERVE is a part of the Mission Program of YU where students participate in service opportunities while growing their faith and discovering how they can each make a difference in the world. Every SERVE experience is run by a local host team, which is made up of volunteers from Stephenville churches. These dedicated volunteers organize each SERVE mission experience with the support of the YU home office. Working as a team they strive to make a long-term impact on the communities and people who they serve. Mission experiences take place year round, and they are coming up on a major milestone as well.
A YU representative stated, “SERVE will celebrate its 25th anniversary soon, and over the years individuals and communities have saved thousands of dollars in manual labor costs and materials, thanks to the dedication and commitment of the volunteer host teams in communities like this.”
The students who come to SERVE are truly an inspiration, and the churches that host them are to be praised for their compassion towards the community and the people they help. The program would not be possible without the outstanding host teams and volunteers like those from Stephenville Christian Reformed Church.
