When you think of Texas, you think of amazing barbecue. And Stephenville residents have been in love with Hard Eight BBQ since the restaurant opened back in 2003. The corner piece of property on Hwy 281 in Stephenville marks the company’s first location, although two more have since been opened in Brady and Coppell.
The Decker family takes their barbecue seriously, and everyone is involved in making the dining experience exceptional. Chad and Carie Decker along with their two daughters, Allie Grace and MayCee have been turning out mouth-watering dishes like fall-off-the-bone ribs and brisket. For something sweet, you can’t go wrong with the banana pudding or one of the many pies or cobblers. Buttermilk, pecan, cheesecake, and peach, apple, blackberry and cherry cobbler are the perfect way to round-out your meal.
So, what’s with the name? Hard Eight BBQ was derived from the couples’ small whitetail ranch in Brady, TX called “Hard Eight Whitetail Ranch.” With an eight-point buck on the property acting as the ranch mascot, and the families’ love of Las Vegas, they came up with the idea for Hard Eight. In craps, a “Hard Eight” is a roll of the dice that produces double 4’s. You can see both the buck and the dice in their logo.
Look for more Hard Eight BBQ locations in the future, as the family does plan to expand on their successful Stephenville, Brady and Coppell locations.
