Stephenville Resident Named Chairman of Texas Agriculture Council

Back to Real Estate News

Stephenville’s history is deeply entrenched in its roots as a dairy farming town, and agriculture continues to play a significant role in the lives of Stephenville home owners. Many community events, such as annual rodeos and dairy exhibitions, focus on the importance of agriculture to the community. Agriculture also plays an integral role in Stephenville’s local economy, and residents enjoy a strong economic infrastructure as a result of dairy farming in the area.

This year, Stephenville resident Darren Turley received the honor of being named chairman of the Texas Agriculture Council. The council is a coalition of 70 Texas agricultural organizations, and is one of the most important non-governmental organizations in Texas.

Turley hopes that his role as chairman will improve relations between farmers and Texas lawmakers. In an interview with the Stephenville Empire-Tribune, he said, “A large majority of those who set and influence public policy in Texas do not understand how food gets from the farm to the fork. We must show them that Texas agriculture, which currently is facing some tough challenges, not only helps feed the state and world, but is also an important contributor to local economies. Turley has a background in business administration, and hopes that his role as chairman will strengthen the Stephenville community.
