Back to Real Estate News

This summer residents in Stephenville have a local event to go along with the summer Olympics. The Saint-Gobain Abrasives plant will host its first annual “Saint-Gobain Olympics” for all of its employees to participate in. All workers in Stephenville will get the chance to participate in ten exciting evens over a 14-week period throughout the summer.

The events include swimming, volleyball, kickball, softball, soccer, track and field, bowling, flag football, horseshoes and basketball. The employees have been broken up into four teams, or “countries.” They will be competing against each other throughout the games.

“We wanted to find a way for people to get more physically active, like ‘Play60,’” (the NFL sponsored program that encourages kids to get out and play for at least 60 minutes each day), said Darin Barton, plant manager at Saint-Gobain. “After only a few discussions and some organization, the Saint-Gobain Olympics has taken on a life of [its] own! I’m proud of our employees’ involvement, spirit and professionalism. On top of that, we’re also having a lot of fun!”

The event that kicked off the Stephenville Games was a fun filled soccer tournament. There were seven teams competing, made up of over 70 employees. They fought to the bitter end. Finally, Team Aruba (Customer Service) that got the Gold Metal, beating Nepal 7-1.

The closing ceremonies are scheduled for August 12, which is the same day as the closing ceremonies in London. All of the Stephenville Games participants will get recognition for their hard work and commitment to a healthy lifestyle and getting active.
