How to plan your Stephenville Home’s Move

House in a wagonWhether you are upsizing, downsizing or simply moving to another Stephenville home, moving house can be an arduous task, but a few simple preparations can take away some of the stress so you can enjoy your new Stephenville home.

Don’t Leave The Arranging Of Movers Until The Last Minute: Especially at certain times of the year, moving companies can be very busy, so it is best to give maximum notice.

Allow Yourself The Time You Need: Try and allow some overlap. This gives you the opportunity to fit new carpets, decorate or get services connected before all your belongings are in the new house.

Do A Little Life Laundry: It seems silly to pack up and move with belongings that you no longer want or need. Look at these things before you move and decide what things could go to charity or could be sold at a yard sale.

Take Some Measurements: It is very easy to visualize where your couch will go in your new home, but it is best to take measurements of doorways and room dimensions, and where power/phone and cable outlets are situated. You can then definitively know exactly where you want your furniture to go on moving day. If curtains and blinds are not included in the sale, measuring the windows will mean you can purchase new ones to give you some immediate privacy.

Start Arranging Utilities: The more notice you can give your utility companies, the easier it will be. Phone companies especially can need extra time to get you connected.

Start Collecting Packing Materials: Buying boxes and packing materials can get expensive. Start collecting boxes from your grocery store or electronic office supplies stores. Save up newspapers and ask friends to do the same as they make a great alternative to bubble wrap.

Pack Essentials Separately: Keep a box of essentials in your car in case the movers are delayed. Keep important paperwork in a folder with you.

Get Ready To Clean: Try to clean as you pack to make it easier later. Make sure you clean your rental home so you don’t risk your security deposit.  Give your new home a clean as you unpack each area, then you can relax and enjoy your new home.
