Home Improvement Projects For This Winter

Back to Real Estate News

Traditionally, winter isn’t seen as a good time to remodel or do any home improvements. Admittedly, knocking down the wall in the nippy cold of a Texas winter might not be the best idea, but that doesn’t mean there aren’t some home improvement projects that go perfectly with the colder months of the year. Here are a few quick fix-ups you can do around your Stephenville home this winter!

A great way to lower energy costs and help the environment is to insulate your water heater. The more heat your tank loses, the more energy you have to spend to keep it heated. Ideally, the water heater should be kept at a toasty 120 degrees. Insulation kits for a project like this can be bought at nearly any hardware store and will keep your water hot and your energy bill low.

One thing most pre-owned homes don’t come with is a new thermostat. Technology has evolved quite a bit in the last few years and there are a number of newer thermostats that can control the temperature of your home much more effectively than older models. Consider installing a programmable or smart thermostat for an easy do-it-yourself home improvement project that can save you tons in the colder months.

Another cheap and easy winter project is painting a room. For a small investment, you can transform a drab, white-walled office into a much nicer place to work. After all, if you’re going to stay inside and out of the cold this winter, you might as well have something nice to look at!
