If you’re ever wondering what to do in Stephenville on a Saturday night, that the whole family will have fun at, and the kids can be as loud as they want, head on over to the 281 Speedway. The Saturday night dirt track is a quarter mile, semi-banked, and a clay oval. It’s located about three miles north of Stephenville on U.S. Hwy 281. Admission for adults is $10, kids 6-12 $3, and kids under 5 are free. Feel free to bring in a cooler, but it can be no larger than then size of twelve cans. Also no pets and no glass. There is fun and excitement practically every Saturday night. Most times the gates open at 6:00 p.m. and races start at 8:00 p.m.
This summer there are lots of exciting events planned. Check out the Dwarf Cars, Father’s Day Hoosier Daddy Tire Races, Winged Mods and Driver’s Autograph Night in the month of June. There are no races on July 7 to celebrate Independence Day, but in July look forward to Kid’s Ride Race Cars, Winged Mods, Dwarf Cars and Hobby Stock King of the Ville. All of these special programs are in addition to the Full Race Program. Kids can join the 281 Kid’s Club and march in a parade, win trophies, and participate in sand art and a lot of other great activities as well.
If you’re itching to get on the track yourself, registration forms can be found on their web site, as well as their full schedule of events, pit parking forms and waiver forms. The guidelines for Street Stocks and Compact Cars can also be easily found on their web site.
