Whether you are considering listing your home or it just needs freshening up, a spring clean could be just the thing. Here are a few tips to help with those areas that seem neglected throughout the year.
Walls – Although you may usually get into the corners to clear any cobwebs, try dusting the walls with the brush attachment of your vacuum cleaner, then giving them a clean with an all-purpose detergent or cleaner. Don’t be tempted to spray the walls with a spray cleaner as you will end up with a streaky finish. It’s best to use a cloth soaked in cleaner.
Baseboards – Make sure you do this after you’ve finished cleaning your floors or any debris will be flicked onto the clean baseboards. You can use your brush attachment of your vacuum cleaner to get rid of any dust, and then just use an all-purpose spray cleaner.
Windows – There are many cleaning products available but a simple solution of ¼ cup vinegar, ¼ of dish detergent and a couple of cups of water used on a microfiber cloth produces a shiny, gleaming finish.
Window Screens – The best way to clean is to remove the screens and wash them out in the yard with a garden hose, some all-purpose cleaner and a soft brush. Be careful on the actual screen, and remember that now is a great time to repair any damaged screens
Ceiling Fans – Try using an old pillowcase and spraying the inside with a cleaner, then just place it over the blades and you can wipe both sides.
Outside – As you’re in the Spring cleaning mood, why not tackle the driveway and siding with a power washer. Just be careful not to strip the paintwork off your siding if your power washer is very powerful. You could always just use a long handled soft brush and some warm soapy water and it will still have a great result.
