Erath County Volunteer Fire Department Competes for Grant

Back to Real Estate News

Volunteerism is at the core of Stephenville’s community, and Stephenville home owners are known for pitching in to help one another out through community organizations. The volunteer fire department of Erath County shares the same strong sense of community pride, and is now in the running to receive a $5000 grant.

The fire department is taking part in an online contest that runs through October 29, and voters will decide who is their favorite community hero. By entering the competition, the Erath County volunteer fire department is raising fire-prevention awareness, and also promoting its organization to potential new members. Erath’s community hero up for nomination is Kenneth Howell, who was recently named a Safeco Insurance Community Hero.

Firefighters are hopeful that Howell will win the competition, and say that $5,000 will go a long way toward funding much-needed equipment. The volunteer fire department has had to front many of the costs of operation, including the cost of fire trucks; if Howell wins the competition, the fire department intends on putting the money toward a thermal imaging camera, which is used to help with structure fires.
