It’s obvious that the Lone Star Conference champion Tarleton TexAnn basketball team takes the same amount of hard work and dedication they use on the court into the classroom. As a team, they earned a 3.3 grade point average, have four honor students, seven distinguished students, and an outstanding math graduate.
“When you have great players, who are tremendous young ladies and work equally hard in the classroom, it makes coaching them a real pleasure,” said Tarleton head coach Ronnie Hearne. Amongst the Tarleton honor students were team members Shelby Adamson and Lisa Parker; and all LSC tournament team members Peyton Adamson and Shanae Lowrance. Each earned an impressively perfect 4.0 GPA.
Making up the distinguished student list were sophomores Brianna Bledsoe, Kimber Koonsman and Cheyenne Berry. Upperclassmen Tomika Lynch, Tara Towns and Morgan Stehling were also on the list.
In order to qualify for these honors, underclassmen need to earn a 3.25 GPA and upperclassmen need to show a 3.5 GPA. Rounding out the list of academically impressive basketball players was MVP Shelby Adamson. She received the Outstanding Math Graduate award and was specially honored during her graduation ceremony.
It is no coincidence that these young ladies are receiving such high marks in school. They take what they learn in practice, from their coach and from each other and apply it to their academic studies. No major accomplishment like becoming the Lone Star Conference champions or being listed on the honor roll comes easily. Teachers, coaches and parents all have a lot to be proud of in their Tarleton TexAnn basketball team, and future team members have a lot to live up to!
