If you are looking for a new way to enjoy the great outdoors from your Stephenville home, you might want to head over to Lake Proctor to take advantage of the numerous recreational opportunities offered by this unique lake. Lake Proctor is located just 10 miles south of Dublin on US Highway 377, and is maintained by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Fort Worth District. The lake is located in Comanche, Texas, but is a local Stephenville favorite since it offers some of the best fishing, camping and boating in the entire state.
Although the lake provides a picturesque setting for community recreation, it was created to provide flood control to the North Central Texas area and to supply water to residents in Comanche, Erath and Hamilton Counties. The lake contains 310,100 acre-feet of flood storage capacity, and offers flood protection to approximately 40,2000 acres of agricultural land under the dam. It also reduces flood damages to properties located along the Brazos River.
When you venture out to Lake Proctor from your Stephenville home, you can partake in numerous outdoor activities. If you would like to stay close to the lake for an entire weekend, it features an area designated for camping. It also features trails that are ideal for hiking and horseback riding, and the surrounding open space makes for excellent scenery as you make your way around the lake. The lake itself is a popular swimming destination, especially during summertime heat waves.
