The outstanding community involvement and outreach of Stephenville’s Donna White has not gone unnoticed. White is a Texas AgriLife Extension Service family and consumer sciences agent in Erath County.
She was recently awarded with a 2011 Superior Service Award – an honor only given out to AgriLife Extension personnel who demonstrate outstanding performance or provide exceptional service to the agency.
AgrilLife is an educational outreach program through the Texas A&M University System that is an absolute asset to Erath County. It’s estimated that each year about 76 million people become ill, 325,000 are hospitalized and 5,000 die due to food born disease. In Erath County about 18% of households are not practicing safe food storage and preparation, so there is absolutely a need for nutrition education targeted to families who live in poverty or are at risk of not having adequate nutrition.
White is going above and beyond to tackle these dilemmas. She was credited for providing the knowledge and instruction necessary to bring food safety and nutrition awareness to community members who need it most.
Some of her work includes the Food Protection Management Course for food service workers, expanding the bandwidth and curriculum development of the Dinner Tonight! program and involvement with the Better Living for Texans for and nutrition educational programming and activities.
The list of programs credited to White doesn’t end there. She was noted for her efforts in addressing obesity issues and improving the overall health and well being of all Erath County residents. In order to do so, she was involved with multiple programming efforts including Walk Across Texas, youth and adult nutrition classes and “Balancing Food and Play” activities.
