Burn Ban Returns to Stephenville

Back to Real Estate News

Stephenville residents saw a change in county policy when the burn ban was lifted earlier this year; however, city officials have announced that the ban is back in effect, and hope that Stephenville home owners will take reasonable precautions against fires in the upcoming season. Stephenville boasts a temperate climate, but its rural surroundings make it easy for wildfires to spread at an accelerated rate.

Mostly, the ban will affect Stephenville home owners who work with welding equipment. The ban restricts all outdoor burning, and welders are being required to take extra precautions. For instance, all areas where welding takes place must be clear of vegetation within 25 feet of where sparks might fly. There  must be 25 gallons of water on site at all times, and if winds pick up beyond 20 miles per hour, welding is prohibited altogether. The Texas Forest Service department is working with Stephenville residents to ensure that the fire season doesn’t affect any Stephenville real estate this year.

Stephenville’s community boasts a strong volunteer fire department, and the volunteer’s commitment to providing services to their neighbors is indicative of the strong community spirit in the city. Numerous other volunteer organizations maintain a strong presence in Stephenville, and organize events such as annual parades, craft shows, and safety meetings for the general public. It’s easy for Stephenville home owners to become involved with community events, and their willingness to participate in volunteer organizations has helped the community stay safe.
